Background Colour

As mentioned in the previous part of this tutorial, you can choose a Background Colour for your new file/canvas.

1. To see which colours you have selected as your Foreground and Background Colour, you just have to take a look at the little overlapping squares in your Tool Palette:

The one on top is the Foreground Colour (the one that would be used if you were to paint), and the one beneath is the Background Colour. - To interchange them, click on the little corner arrow. To change either colour, simply click on the square you want to change the colour of.

The little black and white squares in the left bottom corner indicate which one is the Foreground Colour (black), and which the Background Colour (white). Clicking there would swap their position.

So, if you choose "Background Colour" when you open a new file, the base colour of your canvas would be the one that is the current Background Colour. Simple enough.

2. To choose a new colour, click on either one of the colour squares, and you'll get this:

The circle indicates which colour you are picking, and you can see it exactly in the square on the right - the top colour is the one you are choosing, the bottom colour is the one that you had before.

The arrows each side of the colour bar can be moved up and down, so you can freely choose between colours.
